Handcrafted Wooden Boxes

The “WHY” behind making puzzle boxes

Aside from a very old and good friend of mine saying to me several years ago that I should try making some handcrafted wooden boxes instead of flat puzzles cut by hand on my Hegner Scroll Saw. “Get into 3D he said!” Then I saw a guy named Jeff Vollmers on You Tube describing a puzzle box. He said, “A puzzle box is a puzzling box, it’s a box that’s also a puzzle. You have to work your way into the box!” And, every box is different. No plans. No drawings. Just let the wood guide you! Needless to say…I WAS HOOKED! Puzzle boxes are made to confuse people, to drive kids nuts, and to give them a hiding place for their “treasures!” THAT’S THE FUN OF IT!
