Anniversary Decoys

The “Antique Anniversary Goose Decoy” is being made in a Limited Edition of 500. After that, no more will be created.

Each decoy begins its life from a 30″ diameter lodgepole pine log grown in eastern Oregon. The log is sawn into a large block with the pith of the tree dead center in the block and dried in the hot Oregon sun so checks occur radially out from center and longitudinally down the length of the block to give a more realistic “antique” look.

When the block is bone dry, carving begins. Upon completion of the carving and fine sanding, the decoy is hard line painted with acrylics, let dry and then stressed to “age” the decoy prior to shooting it, once each side, with my old L.C. Smith 12 ga. shotgun. After shooting, the decoy receives several coats of lacquer with ultra fine sanding between each coat. Finally, its glass eyes are set and it’s ready to ship.

Each goose is very large,  usually 3 feet in length and quite heavy because of its size.

Each goose is numbered, signed and dated by the artist on its bottom along with the inscription: THIS ANTIQUE ANNIVERSARY GOOSE DECOY WAS CREATED EXPRESSLY FOR (JOHN & MARY DOE) TO CELEBRATE THEIR SPECIAL DAY OF THEIR (anniversary date).

Price is $750 plus shipping.
