Black Neck Stilts are typically about 12” long & have the second longest legs of any shorebird. They are carved from basswood, as are most all of my detailed birds, and painted with acrylic washes. To obtain depth of color, 7 to 10 wash coats are typically applied. Stilts have a subtle green iridescence on their primary feathers & brown iridescence on their backs during mating season which can be seen if you look closely. The composition shown above is 3 feet long and has been sold.
